ETC & Empower Partner

The Employment & Training Corporation, the employment agency of the government, has teamed up with Empower, a cooperative that is leading the way in the gainful and productive employment of persons with a learning disability within the corporate sector, to set up the Lino Spiteri Foundation for Inclusive Employment.

The partnership will be resourced through the ETC Inclusive Employment team based in Pembroke, and will continue to champion the inclusion of disabled persons, individuals with mental health problems, people exiting the correctional facilities and those recovering from substance abuse in the workforce. It brings together the expertise of the Empower Cooperative set up by Inspire and a group of business people to address the issue of employment provision for persons with disability, and currently employing 25 intellectually disabled persons in partnerships with Middle Sea Valletta, Middle Sea Insurance and Playmobil Malta.

The ETC and Inspire EU project for Supported Employment Training (SET) is currently providing employment for over 50 more disabled persons and has a goal of reaching 150 by mid next year. Other NGOs have close working relationships with the ETC and benefit from funding for their own employability programmes.

The scope of the Lino Spiteri Foundation is to further these excellent initiatives in a more cohesive and collaborative way. The foundation aims to become the central hub and enabler for collaborations between the corporate sector, NGOs, the ETC and the individuals from the various sectors of society looking for employment.
