Employment of Persons with Disabilities in Malta Reaches Over 5,600
The number of persons with disabilities participating in Malta’s workforce has grown significantly over the past decade, rising from 1,699 in 2012 to 5,649 today.
The milestone was highlighted during a visit to the Lino Spiteri Foundation by Inclusion Minister Julia Farrugia and Employment Minister Byron Camilleri, where the important role of the Foundation in supporting inclusive employment was recognised.
During the visit, the ministers met with members of the Lino Spiteri Foundation team and observed training sessions designed to prepare persons with disabilities for employment. The Foundation works closely with both jobseekers and employers, offering training, job matching and job coaching to help individuals successfully integrate into the labour market.
Over the past decade, around 1,400 individuals have received support from the Foundation, with 88% securing some form of employment. In addition, more than 1,100 individuals have benefited from the Foundation’s job-coaching services, which provide ongoing support in the workplace.
The visit also highlighted the broader national efforts to strengthen workplace inclusion through training initiatives, policy measures and collaboration between organisations supporting persons with disabilities.
The continued growth in employment figures reflects the progress being made towards more inclusive workplaces and greater opportunities for persons with disabilities across Malta.
