The Lino Spiteri Foundation was set as a direct consequence of the need for a concerted multi-lateral approach to improving the employability and employment of persons facing long-term unemployment. It honours the late Lino Spiteri (pictured to the right) who was a prime mover in the inclusion of persons with a disability through his various roles, both private and public.

Mr Spiteri was a former Finance Minister and author who died at the age of 76. Despite having a physical disability, Lino Spiteri had an assertive character which helped him lead an independent life both mentally and physically. In 2008 he was made Companion of the Order of Merit (K.O.M).
