Headstart Training Programme Boosts Employability for Persons with Disabilities
The Lino Spiteri Foundation’s Headstart training programme continues to play an important role in supporting persons with disabilities as they prepare for employment and greater independence.
In a recent interview with The Malta Independent, LSF CEO Esmeralda Micallef Zarafa explained how the six-month Headstart course helps participants build essential skills that are often missing when entering the workforce. The programme focuses on areas such as IT skills, communication, teamwork, and financial literacy, while also offering participants the opportunity to obtain their first formal qualification at MQF Level 4.
For many individuals, Headstart represents the first step into the world of work. Beyond technical skills, the programme also helps participants develop confidence and practical workplace readiness.
The Lino Spiteri Foundation works across three key areas: preparing jobseekers with disabilities for employment, supporting employers in building inclusive workplaces, and providing ongoing job coaching once individuals are placed in a role. This holistic approach helps ensure that both employees and employers receive the support they need for long-term success.
Through initiatives like Headstart, the Foundation continues to strengthen its mission of bridging the gap between vulnerability and opportunity, helping more persons with disabilities access meaningful employment and participate fully in the workforce.
